Abstract: The greenhouse gas CO2 is the main contributor to global warming and the drastic climate change through the greenhouse effect Coal based power plants and other stationary sources are the main sources of the anthropogenic CO2 emissions to the atmosphere One more environmental issue is the disposal of the high saline textile effluent from textile dyeing industries causing water pollution and affecting the aquatic environment Similarly a huge generation of the waste glycerol in the biodiesel manufacturing process declines the development of the biodiesel manufacturing industries In the first part of the thesis a series of TFC membranes were prepared by blending the reline DES PEG and MgO with the PVA polymer A micro porous hydrophobic PTFE membrane was chosen as a support material for the preparation of composite membranes The prepared TFC membranes were characterized by FTIR ATR SEM and TGA DSC analytical techniques to realize the interfacial interaction between the PVA matrix and the PEG plus MgO additives and the thermal stability of the composite membranes The effects of addition of different concentration of the reline DES the different molar mass of the PEG additive and the different concentration of MgO on the CO2 separation performance of the composite membranes were examined for the single gas and mixed gas CO2 and N2 method at the reaction temperature of 30oC and the feed gas pressure of 1 bar newline newline
