dc.description.abstract | Advancement in the technologies and its rapid development has resulted in significant water demand in recent decades. Also, an enormous quantity of toxic effluent is generated with assorted pollutants are being discharged from various industries. This situation emphasizes the importance of treating toxic effluents before being released into water bodies. Among the various pollutants released into the water bodies, textile dyes are considered as one of the most toxic pollutants. Textile dyes are released from the dyeing and finishing units of Textile industries. Thus, the effective treatment of dye effluent becomes an important issue of concern. This research focuses on the sequestration of dye pollutants. Conventional treatment techniques lack the scope of efficiency to treat all the assorted pollutants present in the textile dye effluent, generate toxic by-products and are not economically viable. Adsorption process possesses several advantages such as simple operational design, ease of operation, a wide range of adsorbent availability, efficiency, cost-effective and safety. Most of the research work reported on the removal of single and binary dyes from an aqueous solution. So there is a necessity to develop and depict the removal of binary dyes in a real scenario. Hence in this research, batch and continuous flow adsorption experiments were carried out for the removal of real-time dye effluent containing binary dye mixture generated from the textile industry. The polymer nanocomposite has gained much attention as a possible option for the conventional adsorbents. It possesses multifunctional characteristics such as high reactive surface, biocompatibility, chemical and thermal stability. It can be utilized effectively for the removal of textile dyes. The present study involves the simultaneous removal of binary dye mixture from a dyeing unit using polymer nanocomposites, namely Cobalt Ferrite-Alginate nanocomposite (CFA) and Carbon nanotube-Chitosan nanocomposite Beads (CNTCB). newline | |
