Abstract: | Based upon the results generated by the survey that was carried out by the scholar, Environmental Security is slowly and steadily becoming a part of security studies. Environment is being securitized especially in India and Bhutan, which is very much evident from the results of the survey and also due to the relevance being given to environmental issues at both national and regional discourses. There is a growing connection being seen being environmental issues and security concerns. A majority of the population is aware of the term Environmental Security. The populace in both the nations see environmental issues as a part of the security apparatus and the prevalent environmental conflicts do in fact have an impact on the security paradigm. Both nations also are in dire need to have their own environmental security models that fit in with their needs and demands. The survey has also shown that conflicts prevailing in both the nations have an environmental aspect to them which leads to the conclusion that initial disagreements rise when the access to resources is restricted. The survey has also highlighted the fact that there is the need for strict laws when it comes to controlling pollution, policies for proper waste management. The survey has shown that impact of climate change is being felt in both India and Bhutan; existing policies need to be revamped. Projects aimed at economic development need to be more environment conscious. The researcher proposes the South Asian Environmental Security (SAES) Model for the development and implementation of various environmental security protocols, rules and regulations newline |
