Abstract: | Ordinary Portland cement concrete has its excellent strength, durability characteristics and moreover worldwide accepted composite materials for the construction industry. Ingredients required for manufacturing this concrete is binder cement and filler aggregate. Both filler and binder materials are extracted from the natural resources. Also in India, hasty growth of real estate, infrastructure development and smart cities development require huge quantity of cement concrete. Meanwhile, India is the second largest cement manufacturer in the world. So, the demand for cement is increasing every year. At the same time, the country is producing more than the demand. Problem is cement manufacturing industry is responsible for 7% of global CO2 emission. During manufacturing one tonne of cement, clinker formation, combustion of fossil fuel and transportation process releases 1 tonne of CO2 to the atmosphere and it will cause global warming also. On the other hand, there is scarcity of new innovative, pollution free and sustainable material in the construction industry. In spite of this and with the hard work of the many researchers, geopolymer concrete was discovered. Geopolymer concrete has the mixture of source materials, aggregates, and alkaline liquids. Source materials of this geopolymer must have pozzolanic characteristics like medium of silica and alumina. Fly ash geopolymer concrete was successfully experimented and commercialized in all parts of the country. At the same time, thermal power station residue of Bottom Ash (BA) is not yet fully utilized newline |
