Abstract: Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of the Squirrel Cage Induction Motor SCIM is a challenging task and very crucial in the industry point of view to reduce downtime timely maintenance revenue loss and increase productivity The SCIM condition is analysed with different contact and non contact condition monitoring techniques including vibration monitoring thermal monitoring current monitoring, acoustic emission monitoring and flux monitoring All these monitoring methods require expensive sensors specialized tools complicated equipment and large signal data whereas the proposed method is simple does not need expensive sensors specialized devices and requires minimum data Vibration monitoring techniques are applied to detect the various types of SCIM faults such as rotor fault air gap eccentricity fault bearing fault load fault voltage fluctuation fault and frequency variation fault The SCIM vibrates with a specific frequency for every fault occurring in the motor Under faulty conditions the frequency spectrum of the vibration varies from a healthy motor Thus analysis of the vibration with more accuracy provides the different fault s information of the motor The existing contact methods attach a sensor on the surface of the motor to obtain the signal but sensor sensitivity is severely affected by large heat generated in the motor the presence of the other machines and environmental changes The non contact method for fault diagnosis is preferable for large motors but the accuracy of the existing techniques affected by the data loss in the wireless transmission and surrounding environmental changes The existing methods are expensive and require a large amount of data time to process and complicated experimental setup Thus a new method is proposed which is simple cost effective and fast newline
