Primary health care evaluation of maternal and child health services in select tribal areas of District Sirmour Himachal Pradesh

Abstract

Primary health care addresses the majority of a person s health needs throughout their lifetime, which is the ultimate universal health coverage goal. Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services are essential to promote mother and children s health. Health care personnel play an integral role in the implementation of MCH services, and they are facing various challenges while delivering MCH services in underprivileged (tribal) areas. Various programs and policies related to MCH services were launched by Govt. of India. A mixed method approach was selected to collect the data from Health Care Personnel and Beneficiaries through interviews, focused group discussion. The observational checklists were used to monitor the infrastructure facilities and services of Sub-Centre and Health Care Centres. There was a shortage of human resources and material; job-related issues, lack of transportation facilities, limited in-service education, incomplete documentation, transcultural issues, etc., are the various challenges they face. There was inadequate utilization of MCH services due to a shortage of health care facilities, lack of transportation and family support, and inadequate knowledge. Cultural health practices have a greater impact on the health of mothers and children. There is an immense need to improve infrastructure and resource facilities; active involvement of beneficiaries for the promotion of their health ultimately helps in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. newline
