dc.description.abstractAdvances in the image enhancement software programs such as Photoshop have made it not only easier to enhance the perceptual newlinequality of images but also to manipulate the image content to ones convenience and distribute across the people in no time. The manipulations may range from certain innocuous image processing operations to malicious tampering such as object insertion or deletion. This gives rise to a host of challenges such as image authentication, copy right issues etc. The initial attempts of image authentication newlinetechniques were based on digital signatures that could judge if the image has been tampered or not, but failed to identify (localise) the tampered regions. Soon, tamper localisation and recovery of the tampered regions also became a quite desired aspect of image authentication schemes. The digital watermarking technology provided an efficient alternative to the digital signatures and also enabled much needed tamper localisation and recovery. The digital newlinewatermarking involves embedding of information related to the image (called the watermark) imperceptibly in the image itself, keeping the perceptual quality of the image at acceptable level.
