Abstract: Lucknow district is one of the most important, fast growing and populous district in newlinethe middle part of Ganga Plain associated with recent quaternary alluvium deposits, newlinewhich makes its one of the best aquifer systems in the world for availability of newlinegroundwater resources. It is observed that from last two decades, most of the cities of newlineIndo-Gangetic plains were facing severe problem for availability of groundwater, its newlinequality and quantity. The major factors for degradation of quality and quantity of newlinewater resources are due to the extensive land transformation process for developing newlinenew cities and fast growth of population, dependency of irrigation practices on newlinegroundwater and it s over pumping. The primary motivation of selecting the proposed newlinework is to explore the potential of geospatial technology, hydro geological newlineinformation, field survey data to develop the comprehensive model for groundwater newlinerecharge, its quality and vulnerability mapping for water resource management of the newlinearea. The major groundwater movement and availability controlling factors such newlinegeology, hydrogeomorphology , land use , soil , slope , vegetation ,water level newlineanalysis and rain fall were analyse and map under GIS environment. Long-term land newlineuse/ cover maps are generated for the study area from Landsat satellite data and newlinechanges in each land use classes such as vegetation cover, agriculture, horticulture, newlinebuilt-up area etc. were performed and their impact on surface water bodies, newlinehydrogeomorphic features and groundwater level. Groundwater recharge model has newlinebeen developed for the study area by developing important thematic layers such as newlineHydrogeomorphology, Geology, LULC, depth to water level, Rainfall, Soil texture, newlineNDVI, and Slope from satellite data. All the above contributing factors were newlineevaluated based on their suitability and expert opinion from field hydrogeologist; newlinethereafter the final groundwater recharge zones were delineated by applying AHP newlinemulti criteria analysis study area. newline newline
