The problem of poverty and unemployment being faced by almost every third world country and India is not an exception. It is believed that both are positively and directly linked as both tend to move or progresses in same direction. Moreover, it has been suggested and quoted by many researchers throughout the world. Out of these researchers, most of them emphasised that poverty and unemployment are the two sides of the same coin and tend to move hand in hand. However, surprisingly there are many existing studies at the national and international levels suggesting that both tend to move away from each other or there exist a trade off. Hence, a need was felt to see the role of the economic development in tackling these twin problems. Therefore, the main aim behind the study is to check the relationship between poverty, unemployment and economic development at the State level (i.e., Jammu and Kashmir) and further look into the kind of relationship exists at district level also (i.e., Leh). The study also discusses the incidence and determinants of poverty and unemployment in the state as a whole. It also manages to estimate the level of poverty and unemployment in the Leh district separately. The post reform period level of economic development in the state and the district are measured with some indicators. The study also aimed to analyse the relationship between three poverty, unemployment and economic development in the state as well as in the Leh district. newline
