The reign of Maharaja Pratab Singh 1885 to 1925 is undoubtely the most significant period as it marked the transition from medieval to the modern age in the history of Jammu and Kashmir state The present administrative structure of the State is based to a very great extent on the reforms introduced by the British residency during newlinethe same period Since no serious work has so far been done on some important changes which the administrative structure of Kashmir underwent during Pratap Singhs reign this explains why the present topic has been chosen for study The study lays emphasis on the fact that the Muslim uprising of 1931 needs to be studied against the background of feudal nature of the Dogra administration newline
