Abstract: | The purpose of the present research is whether polyester waste bottles may be newlineutilized for the manufacturing of filter fabrics after converting them in the form of newlinerecycled polyester fibres. This will be purposeful utilization of waste, reduction of cost newlinewhile substituted in place of virgin polyester fibres. newlinePolyester fibre is being used widely for the manufacturing of filtration fabrics. In the newlinepresent study an attempt was made to examine the suitability of recycled polyester fibres newlinewhich was obtained after recycling of post consumer bottle flakes. This idea has come in newlinemind with the thinking that the recycled polyester fibres obtained after recycling of waste newlinebottles will be utilized in place of first hand manufactured polyester fibre. As after newlinerecycling polymer polyester may not have much difference in its original characteristics. newlineThe fibre properties has important role on deciding the properties of the final product as newlinewell as their performance, both the fibres were characterized for DSC, FTIR, XRD, newlinedenier, tenacity and elongation percentage. The results have shown that virgin polyester newlinefibre exhibited higher melting point compared to recycled polyester fibre. FTIR spectrum newlinerevealed that both the fibres have same chemical groups. The surface roughness of virgin newlinefibre is more compared to recycled polyester fibre. The recycled polyester fibres exhibited newlinehigher breaking elongation percent as compared to virgin. Hardly 8-10 percent smaller newlinecrystallite sizes showing less developed crystallinity in case of recycled polyester fibre newlineresulted in lower degree of crystallization and slightly lower tenacity. Marginal difference newlinein values of molecular weight and poly dispersity index (PDI) are observed for both newlinefibres. newlineTensile strength and breaking elongation has important role in serviceability. Looking to newlinethis the samples prepared from virgin and recycled polyester fibres were tested for above newlineproperties. Comparison of both type fabrics was made based on identical structural and newlinemanufacturing parameters. The study reve |
