Abstract: | A large number of studies have been conducted to carry out research on the physical fitness newlinevariables and anthropometric characteristics of rural and urban students to observe whether or newlinenot they are distinguishable and noteworthy. As scores of physical fitness variables are newlineavailable and a host of anthropometric characteristics too exits, the scholar was fascinated to newlinedo comparative study on both major dependent variables to draw an inference as to who is newlinesuperior and stronger on the selected variables: Rural students or urban students? That opened newlineup the vistas of curiosity driven research with a pure desire to make a meaningful contribution newlinein the chosen field. newlineTo find a way forward, the scholar went for the random selection of students in the age group newlineof 13-18 years with a sample size of 1600 students in the ratio of 50:50 from rural and social newlinemilieu. They were made to understand as to what kind of tests they were about to be subjected newlineto in pursuit of hitting the purpose of the study. A sufficient amount of enthusiasm and newlinemotivation was infused among the participants to conduct study without confronting any issues. newlineOnce they were put into action mould, they were subjected to tests/ measurements. newlineThere was a selection of five major physical fitness variables like cardio-respiratory endurance, newlinemuscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition and flexibility for tests and nine newlineanthropometric characteristics like height, weight, leg length, sitting height, chest newlinecircumference, thigh circumference, arm length, calf circumference and upper arm newlinecircumference for measurements. The commonality of objective was to ascertain the superiority newlineof either of the two selected groups i.e. rural and urban on the selected parameters. The results newlineof the study made known to us that rural students proved their superiority over urban students newlinefor all five selected physical fitness variables such as cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular newlinestrength, muscular endurance, body composition and flexibility |
