A Differential Study of Vocational Choices and Personality in Relation to Emotional Intelligence of Under Graduate Students

Abstract

The present research was conducted on undergraduate students to analyze newlinetheir Vocational Choices and Personality in relation to their Emotional Intelligence. newlineFor the purpose a sample of 500 (250 male and 250 female) undergraduate students newlinewas selected from the B.A. III class from various colleges of Deen Dayal Upadhyay newlineGorakhpur University, Gorakhpur by using accidental sampling techniques. Career newlinePreferences Record constructed by Vivek Bhargava and Rajshree Bhargava; NEO newlineFive Factor Inventory constructed by Costa P.T. and McCrae R.R and Emotional newlineIntelligence Test constructed by K.S. Mishra were used to collect the data. For the newlineanalysis of the data Mean, Coefficient of correlation, S.D., t-test and ANOVA were newlineused. Results revealed that the various dimensions of vocational choices, newlinePersonality and Emotional Intelligence are not affected by the gender and caste. newlineThe groups low and high emotionally intelligent undergraduate students do not differ newlinesignificantly on various dimensions of vocational choices. Emotional intelligence newlinehas weak correlation with openness to experience and agreeableness. EI achieved newlinepositive and significant correlation with extraversion, conscientiousness and newlinesignificant negative relation with neuroticism. There is a significant relationship newlinebetween vocational choices and personality of under graduate students. newline newline
