dc.description.abstractNext generation heterogeneous wireless networks must accommodate the fast-growing demands and has to use the available resources in an efficient way. Cooperative communication based on relaying approach has emerged as a novel promising approach to give better coverage, power efficiency, and reduced outage probability. In the multi-hop heterogeneous wireless environment, to give optimal communication through enabling cooperation among nodes significantly increases throughput. In recent development with cooperative communication, relay selection has a significant impact on improving the capacity of a network. Especially in surveillance based wireless networks, cooperative communication has many advantages to replace existing direct communication and relay selection is generally considered as an intelligent choice to improve the performance in terms of capacity. Observation of several relying approaches motivated to resolve the imprecise nature of wireless networks by providing a better way with intelligent decisions on relay selection. In this dissertation, an intelligent decision-making based relay selection schemes which select the superior node among candidate relay nodes are proposed to achieve the network throughput. Potential candidate relay nodes aid in communication between source and destination. These methods take three criteria into consideration for the process of relay selection, relay s bandwidth, relay s signal-to-noise ratio and the distance between sources to a candidate relay node.
