Abstract: Nowadays communication systems are exploring development in exponential form, as the modern era is rule by digital technologies. The world is approaching towards 5th Generation communication spectrum, in which the necessity for accurate data transmission, higher speed and reliability of the system are the need of the hour. Currently, people are approaching with gadgets that use Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) and Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) communication technologies effectively. This happens due to the technological advancements in the design of antenna configurations, which are being used in these devices. The antenna design incorporates various approaches that improve the efficiency of it. This Thesis presents an investigation on the various design approaches of an antenna for wireless communication systems. The performance of any antenna configuration will be evaluated through its performance indices which include return loss, gain and voltage standing wave ratio, pass bandwidth, notch band frequencies and the smith chart analysis. To carry out the investigations, a detailed study on the existing antenna designs has been undertaken. From the literature studies, the need for the design of new antenna arrangements, the design methodology, the fabrication techniques and the methods of testing them have been studied. The drawbacks of the exiting schemes have been identified and certain design modification have been proposed and illustrated in this investigation. The objective of the Thesis was to propose a suitable antenna scheme for wireless communication systems. It has been decided to propose a single layer microstrip fed ultra-wide band antenna and to study its characteristics. newline
