Abstract: | It is a fact universally acknowledges that industrial growth provides better lifestyle and employment opportunity to the growth of a wealthy society. Owing to rapid economic and industrial development, every country is confronted with problems. One such problem is the industrial pollution at the cost of ecology. India, one of the largest industrial nations, is no exception. The increasing demand for leather products in the global market like finished footwear, bags, etc., has led to the expansion of immense leather industries across the country. Stringent official regulations govern the industries in the utilization of waste water, waste air and disposal of waste to increase environmental protection. Therefore suitable waste water treatment methods are necessary for compliance with stricter legislation, environmental protection and landfill regulations for tannery industry. The main aim of this study is to assess the efficiency of treatment methods in tannery waste water, collected in four different stages to reduce the pollutant concentration. Tannery waste water is collected as soak liquor and liming waste water after preliminary beam house operations such as soaking and liming process. The third type of waste water is collected after tanning process as chrome waste water and finishing waste water collected after dyeing and finishing operations. Photo oxidation of tannery waste water has been studied using green synthesised iron oxide and zinc oxide nano catalyst prepared by a green synthesized process. It uses eclipta prostrata leaf extract as a natural reducing agent. newline |
