Abstract: | In the era of globalization, mine and minerals extraction is one of the primary factors which is responsible for the development of nay nation. It plays a significant role in the economy of a country. Also, it is considered an essential factor for the employment in several areas. However, the extraction of mining should be done with utmost consideration by complying with the principles of sustainable development. India is the fourth largest reserve of coal and it is considered rich in the sector of mines and minerals. The Mines Act 1952 deals with the health and safety of workers. The provisions of the Act are not properly implemented because of irresponsible behavior of the authority. There is no accountability of the authorities like Chief Inspector and Inspector in context of health and safety in mines. The principles of Sustainable development were duly complied in this present legislation by making the environmental protection provisions more stringent as compared with the previous enactment. Furthermore, the health and welfare of the citizens are also considered in present enactment. However several lacunas are still faced by such industry that is a worthwhile consideration. newline |
