Abstract: The New historicist understanding of the liaison between history and literature has newlineopened new vistas in the field of theory by a sceptical interrogation of the traditional newlineweights assigned to both the streams. The dominant idea that considers history as the recorded facts of the past and other texts as fictional elements is challenged by readily presenting the narrative nature of history and by reviewing several political contradictions from the texts. In fact, it is not only history that can be traced from such works, but also many aspects that history fails to record because of its narrative limitations and other political reasons. Other writings including literature take the freedom of narration and textuality and convey the ethos of a culture more effectively. When it comes to a society with extreme power structures, the direct relation between history and the dominant politics is often evident. The writers in such societies are either a part of the politics or are forced to be so; if not, they are declared as dissident writers who are dangerous to the nation as well as society. newlineThis research, therefore, is the study of select works of dissident authors to analyse newlinethe relationship between dominant power structures in a community and the narratives produced. This examines the political background and analyses the societal problems reflected in the texts. Besides, the study evaluates the image projection of the leaders in a society and the identity of marginal people with the help of the selected primary sources. The works of dissident writings portray the emotion of the whole community, which is the generic emotion through the emotional dispositions of the individual characters. The study also analyses how the dominant politics cultivate its ideologies, and in contrast, the selected works present counter concepts. The study further observes the significant part these works play in deconstructing the existing history either by modifying it by filling the gaps or by challenging the single-sided narratives. The
