Abstract: Abstract newline newlineHuman resource is considered as the most important asset for every organization in this technological era. In spite of technological advancement, the role of human resource cannot be under estimated as the success of any organization depends on efficient use of human resources. Welfare activities and facilities play a crucial role in promoting better working conditions and living standards of the workers which increases the productivity. The concept of labour welfare is dynamic in nature and has been interpreted in different ways from country to country and from time to time. Welfare programmes brings various facilities and amenities in and around the work-place for the better quality of work life of the employees. Labour welfare facilities like canteens, rest rooms, recreational, sanitary and medical facilities, pick and drop facilities for the travel providing accommodation to workers employed at a distance from their homes. Welfare activities boost up the image and sentiments of the employees. Organizations should strive in providing welfare facilities to their employees to keep their motivation levels high. newline newlineThe welfare schemes for the employees can be broadly classified into two categories, they are statutory and non-statutory welfare schemes. The statutory schemes are those schemes that are to be compulsorily provided by the organization in compliance to the laws governing employee health and safety. The statutory scheme include: canteen facilities, drinking water, proper and sufficient lighting , facilities for sitting , changing rooms , first aid appliances, latrines and urinals , washing places, spittoons, rest rooms. Non statutory welfare schemes may include: personal health care, flexi-time, employee assistance programs, harassment policy, employee referral scheme, medi-claim insurance scheme.
