Abstract: | Information and communication technology has led to a paradigm shift in the processes and practices of library and information management. It is playing an important role in productive and relevant learning. Making information accessible to all requires that it is made flexible and financially affordable for the learners. The ICT has considerably transformed the shape of the library and information management system as well as the need of information seekers. With the advent of ICT and information networks have created a new society called as information society. The information has been considered the basis of economic growth of any country and there is going to be increased demand for all sort of information product and services. newlineThe progressive society has to be up-to-date with the cutting edge of technology and its application and is has become imminent and essential, especially in knowledge adaptation to provide the information resources to be the part of development process. In this progressive scenario, the responsibility of the information profession in re-orienting its resources base from traditional media to digital media has become inevitable. The information has been considered as commodity and with value addition in internet and networking environment, its scope gets much wider and challenging. The ICT has revolutionized the methods of information harvesting, storage, processing and dissemination. It also made information available more widely by providing instantaneous access to structured form and improved the efficiency and effective transfer processes. newlineInformation and communications has become the heart beat of human life and social development.
