Abstract: In the present scenario, day-by-day increases of industrializationand population, the electric power demand is also increasing proportionally which strives electrical engineers to provide reliable power generation without affecting the power quality. The renewable energy sources are inevitable for electrical energy generation to meet the total demand without emission. In order to maximize the efficiency of generated power, the power converters play a major role in renewable energy systems. In DC to AC power conversion, the inverters are responsible to synchronize with the utility grid, this paid more attention among the researchers to develop more DC to AC power converters with higher efficiency. However, the two-level inverters are not suitable for high voltage applications in which the role of the Multi Level Inverter (MLI) is a crucial one because it provides an alternative solution for medium and high power applications. The multilevel inverter improves output voltage quality and harmonic profile, as it increases the number of voltage level with appropriate modulation schemes. In spite of salient inherent features of existing multilevel inverters, some drawbacks are observed such as increased number of power semiconductor devices and control complexity. This research work focuses on the design of a new switched diode topology for medium voltage applications with a minimized count of power components. newline
