dc.description.abstract | In recent years wireless communications have experienced, a fast growth due to real time and high data rate multimedia applications. It motivates the research scholars to work on millimetre wave 60 GHz Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) systems. In the physical layer design of wireless personal area network systems, the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation block leads the major role. It generates N orthogonal subcarriers, which eliminate the effect of Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI). Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is the most spectrum efficient and multicarrier modulation scheme compared with other frequency division multiplexing schemes. As per the IEEE 802.15.3c standard, one orthogonal frequency division multiplexing symbol in wireless personal area network system consists of 512 subcarriers. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT) processor performs a major role in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modulation. To generate 512 points orthogonal subcarrier, FFT / IFFT processor becomes an attractive solution for OFDM. The FFT algorithm is one of the most widely used digital signal processing algorithms. The computational requirements of this algorithm are a heavy burden in most real-time applications. It is the most compute-intensive and time consuming operation in majority of the applications. Next generation wireless systems demand high transmission efficiency and hence FFT / IFFT processor should be capable of doing computations much faster.
