Abstract: | The child is an invaluable asset of any society and has a definite role to play in the newlinedevelopments of the nation. The future of a country depends on how its children are newlinebeing nurtured to become the future citizens of the country. Some of the children force by newlinethese socio-economic conditions takes up work up at a crucial formative age. A child newlinewhose legitimate place is at School is found to be holding a chisel in his hand to newlinesupplement the income of his family. This was only prevents these children from getting newlinebasic education but also is highly detriment to this health and leads to the intellectual and newlinephysical stunting of their growth. Deprivation of the life of academic and other activities of newlinejoyful childhood leads to under development of these innate capacities, which further newlineperpetuates a scenario of poverty illiteracy under development and deprivation. newlineThough there are clear provisions in our constitution to safeguard the interest of newlinechildren by ensuring that they receive education and are not force to work for a living. It newlineis unfortunate that the problem of child labour exists to a large extent in our country. In newlinefact child labour is the result of various ills in the society. Poverty and illiteracy are two newlinesuch manifestations, which are visible but there are many other factors in built in our newlinesociety like the position of women in the family traditional and Cultural practice and newlinefeudal attitude in the country perpetuating this problem. newlineIn absolute numbers the problem is large. As per the census 2001 there are 1.26 newlinecrores economically active children in the age - group of 5-14 years in the country.
