Abstract: newlineThe Meshed Mobile Ad hoc Network MMANET is a network newlineconsisting of mobile wireless nodes that use the ISM Industry Scientific and newlineMedical bandwidth 2 4 to 2 483 GHz or 5 725 to 5 85 GHz for mutual newlineconnectivity or for connecting to other wired infrastructures using gateway newlinenodes Advanced coding techniques and technological advancements in the newlineminiaturization of components have nearly made mobile cellular handsets newlinewith graphical interfaces and multimedia content to function as computers newlineConversely the availability of cost free unlicensed ISM bandwidth newlineinexpensive internet connectivity and protocols like Voice over IP VoIP newlinehave enabled computers to function as telephones If the last mile wireless newlineconnectivity problem is solved for networks such as the MMANETs a mobile newlinephone network could be constructed from existing wired infrastructures by newlineusing the computer nodes as the equivalent of mobile phones newlineIn a MMANET the gateway node acts as a bridge interconnecting newlinethe wired and wireless networks In such a case the nodes of the MMANET newlinecontend for connectivity to the gateway node to achieve a connection to the newlinewired global network This contention is regulated by the Media Access newlineControl MAC mechanism The first and simplest MAC layer protocol for a newlineMMANET is the 802 11 mechanism that was implemented in Wi Fi cards newlineThis mechanism possesses a dual functionality In the first mode called the newlinePoint Coordination Function PCF one control node controls the power and newlinetransmission rate of all the nodes in a network newline
