Status of Library and Information Science Education in North East Region with Special Emphasis to Arunachal Pradesh

Abstract

Today we are living in a society of 21st Century which has witnessed several striking changes. The field of library and information sciences education is no exception to it. The main driving force behind these changes is development and progress to meet the contemporary challenges. For any developing country education plays an important role in development of the country. It is education which can make the society to think of the society and do for the society. Higher and professional educations have greater responsibility towards national development. As Satija (2009) points out vital contribution of higher and professional education in the overall development of any nation cannot be gainsaid (p. 35). Education is an important human activity. It is as old as human race. It will continue so long as the human race lives. Education as subject covers an extensive area, as it may mean anything from the ways by which an individual may make conscious efforts to develop himself intellectually or to improve his professional abilities to acquire knowledge in a broad sense or even to be involved in the controlled process of going through the formal education as imparted in the school, college or university. On the other hand library science is primarily concerned with the collection, preservation, organization and use of recorded knowledge. It works in different ways. To Satija (2009) newline20 newline only education can bridge the disparities between rich and poor while professional education is the means for national reconstruction (p. 35). It would be wise decision of a nation to liberally use national resources for cultivation of human resources. Education and human resource development are of paramount importance for any government to improve the socio economic condition of the people. The development is ongoing process which requires true efforts of the people for betterment of the society. It is very clear that the society in which we are living is changing and non static. aspects of library education from the beginning.
