Energy is considered to be the lifeline of any nation and is considered to be a central theme around which all the activity revolves. It is directly related to human development and improvement in Energy can cause cascading impact on education, health, agriculture, water, sanitation, and employment sector as well. Energy is not to be read in isolation but it is so interconnected that we can say that it is a key driver of socio-economic growth. Climate change is the biggest problem the world is facing right now. Various scientists have equivocally concluded that climate change can be minimized only through mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation can be done only through sustainable development. About 78% of the total GHGs emission is due to the generation of energy through conventional fossil fuels. To strike the balance between climate change, energy demand, and development, we have to rely on sustainable energy. Sustainable energy is efficient, clean, affordable, reliable, and sustainable in nature, therefore, renewable energy is the most appropriate answer. The promotion of renewable energy can only be possible if an environment conducive to the growth of the renewable energy sector is developed and for that we require a Robust Legal framework relating to renewable energy in India.
