Abstract: | The phytochemical analytical studies were performed to screen the chemical constituents of the drug that were responsible for the biological activities like antimicrobial, anti-oxidant property of the drug in the body. The presence of ascorbic acid and iron in the preparation were found to be responsible for the haemopoietic mechanism. Heavy metal analysis and Aflatoxins were found to be below the detection levels. The drug was totally free of bacterial and fungal contamination. Specific pathogens and pesticide residues were absent in the trial drug. This revealed the quality of MM was good. From this study, it is concluded that the trial drug Madhulai Manappagu was a potent herbal syrup that was proved to be safe and efficacious in treating Pandu (Iron Deficiency Anaemia) in children of 6 to 12 years of age. The future studies have to be carried out on MADHULAI MANAPPAGU in the following aspects: 1. Creating the standard physiochemical finger print for MM by comparing the qualitative and quantitative analyzes of different batch preparations using palm jaggery, sugar candy, jiggery 2. A double blind randomized controlled clinical trial for global acceptance of MM in the treatment of Iron Deficiency Anaemia in adults. 3. Because of its easy availability, palatability, efficacy, low cost Madhulai manappagu may be recommended to treat anaemia nationwide. 4. Further pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic assessment of the trial drug to be carried out. newline |
