dc.description.abstract | The present research work entitled The QissaKav of HirWaris as a Challenge to Patriarchy: A Critical Interpretation endeavors to understand Qissa, HirWaris and also to perform a critical analysis on it. The researcher for her achievement has taken the selected work of Sant Singh Sekhon and the works of other feminist authors. By reading these texts the scene of earlier Punjab and its culture is exposed. Various aspects like rural background, boundations in the families, living standards, conscious about status and honor are witnessed through the journey of Punjabi Qissakav. The text selected for this research work is The Love Story of Hir and Ranjha(1978) (trans.) by Sant Singh Sekhon. newlineFor centuries, the estuary of love has been flowing through Punjab, the land of five rivers. The glorious oral literature of Punjab is delineated and reflected through its water. One of them is the Chenab which holds the tales of an unprecedented love. Though with the beginning of mankind, opposite gender attraction prevailed over social taboos. But some of them turned revolutionary in the course of history. In the middle of seventeenth century, one of the unmatchable amours of love was penned down by Waris Shah as HirWaris. The patriarchal construction of the society in seventeenth century has given its female a subservient ranking. The woman is pictured through subjugation, reverence, submission and patriarchal stumbling blocks. The QissaKav of Punjab as a figurine of its community provides a large body for a feminist critique to unclothe the veil of patriarchy and the victimized women. The study of QissaKavas achallenge to patriarchy and its critical interpretation is the goal of the present thesis. newline | |
