dc.description.abstractnewline The increasing demand of water threatens the supply for food production and other vital human needs. Water shortage already exists in many regions. Seasonal changes in quality of water body show a major impact on distribution and population density of both animal and plants. Water sampling was performed from Bhakra dam reservoir at 31º24and#697;39and#698; N, 76º26and#697;0and#698; E i.e. Gobind sagar reservoir and Sutlej River between July to December 2016 to check the various changes in water quality parameters in three seasons (Pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon). The study was conducted to estimate various physico-chemical properties collected water samples from twelve sites by keeping distance ten kilometer between two sampling sites. Previous studies were performed on Sutlej river water only on point source. Hence present study was performed on non point water samples by collecting from fixed distance. It was clear from the investigation that quality of Sutlej River water changes seasonally. Seasonal variation from pre-monsoon to monsoon total alkalinity, total hardness, turbidity, chloride content, sulphate content, nitrate content, ammonia, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and dissolved oxygen increases while pH and total dissolved decreases. As season changes from monsoon to post-monsoon, increasing trend was obtained for pH, TDS (Total dissolved solid) and decreasing trend was observed for all other physico-chemical properties along with some deviations.
