Abstract: The mobile industry in India is increasing rapidly. It is already the third largest smart phone market in the world. There were 185 million smart phone connections as of mid-2015 and it is expected that another half a billion new connections will be added by 2020. In an explanatory study by Carter, Thatcher, Applefield and Mcalpine, the study reveals that young people become increasingly dependent and develop deeper emotional ties with cell phones. In the modern era, most of the youngsters depend on mobile phones and its apps to communicate with friends and relatives and in building a new relationship even with the strangers. The current study looks into the psychological and sociological factors that influence the mobile use among the users. The major objectives of this research are: i) to study the interdependency of cognition, affection, fashion and gratification of mobile phone usage among respondents ii) to discuss the significance of psychological and gender influence on mobile usage, and the nature and types of mobile use iii) To analyze the significance of demographic variables gender, age, education, profession, family income and marital status influencing the mobile usage and iv) to explore the impact of demographic variables on psychographic variables among men and women. newline
