Abstract: | newline Background newlineStature is an inherent characteristic, the estimation of stature is considered to be a very important assessment in the identification of unknown human remains. Regression formulae derived for a specific population can underestimate or overestimate the stature when employed in another population. newlineObjectives newlineThe present study was carried out to evaluate the accuracy of long bones, hand and foot measurements in the estimation of stature from Kolhapur population. newlineMethodology newlineOne thousand subjects comprising of 500 males and 500 females in the age group of 20- 50 years were included in the study group from Kolhapur population. The parameters taken are height, hand length, hand breadth, foot length, and foot breadth, tibial and ulnar length by using standard anthropometric instruments newlineResults newlineCorrelation between the stature and various parameters studied in males and females were found to be positive and statistically significant. newlineConclusions newlineLength measurements are better predictor of stature as compared to breadth measurements. Significant positive correlation between the study variables and the stature indicates that these variables can be successfully used to predict stature from Kolhapur population. newline |
