Use of E Resources in the selected Engineering College Libraries in Delhi

Abstract

Introduction: Impact of information Communication Technology is growing day by day in human life. The computer has become an integral part of information society. Lifelong learning is the only way to service and thrive in the rapidly changing environment Internet revolutionized the concept of libraries and changed the way the information is processed, stored, transmitted, retrieved and disseminated. It has been seen from the world statistics on Internet usage that there are 2,095,006,005 Internet users in the world. newlineThis is the information age because information technology is growing fast. Traditional libraries are changing their role and functions according to the new trends in the society. Library is providing information through the computers and Internet. It can be said that without the help of the computers and internet any library information centre can not satisfy the users. newlineToday libraries are slowly moving from traditional printed collections to e-resources. Large amounts are being spent on these resources, so as to provide up to date information to its users. But, it doesn t mean that the libraries are removing total printed collection. At the same time, libraries are maintaining the printed collection to satisfy user needs. The libraries and information centres generally have three components viz., resources (print/non-print), users and library staff.
