A Critical Study of Selected Novels of Anita Desai and Kiran Desai

Abstract newlineThe present research work aims at undertaking a critical study of selected novels of Anita Desai and Kiran Desai has been attempted. Both authors are Indian. They are mother and daughter. So, many things can be seen as similar due to their family background and identical cultural moorings and dissimilar due to their individual exposure and two different time zones they grew up. Anita Desai and Kiran Desai brought with them a new world of East-West encounter, loneliness, alienation, human relationships, economic inequality, globalization, etc. On the one hand, Anita Desai is a silent writer making her points quietly and profoundly whereas Kiran Desai is more vocal in her representation of issues. From the treatment of the themes to characterization, we can see many junctures of overlapping styles and contradictory viewpoints as well. It will be really insightful to compare these two apparently (dis)similar authors afresh so that we can read their works in the light of the 21st century. newline
