Abstract: | One of the major problems which adolescents face is the academic procrastination. The main objective of the research is to study the relationship of Academic procrastination with meta cognition, perfectionism and internet usage among adolescents. The sample comprises 800 students from 9th class studying in government senior secondary schools of Punjab. The data was collected with the help of Academic Procrastination scale by Kalia and Yadav (2015), Meta cognition scale by Singh and Bali (2017), Perfectionism Scale prepared by the investigator and Internet usage scale by Saini and Kaur (2017). The data was analysed by using t-ratio, Karl Pearson s Product moment correlation technique, Fishers Z coefficient; Step up regression technique, R along with R2 and F-ratio. Finding of the study revealed that Academic procrastination is more in urban adolescents as compared to rural adolescents; more in adolescent girls than adolescent boys; Significant but negative relationship of academic procrastination with meta cognition, perfectionism and significant positive relationship with internet usage in case of total adolescents, rural and urban adolescents as well as for adolescent boys and adolescent girls. The results of the study also state that academic procrastination can best be predicted through an interactive effect of meta cognition, perfectionism and internet usage in comparison to their independent effects. The adolescents should be provided with timely support and the counselling should be done to boost child s confidence level; child s sense of control over own activities so that the incidence of academic procrastination is reduced. This should be joint effort of teachers, parents and counsellors. newline |
