Abstract: | The present research work aims to examine the feminist visions of the two writers in their novels, the questions they pose to society and the portrayal of women s issues in the selected novels of the two writers. It focuses on the vexation of gender-based inequity, subjugation of women in a patriarchal society and relegating the status of the other to a woman which stretches out to anguish and torment (physical as well as mental) and dwarfing of women- mental, intellectual as well as professional. The foundation of this investigation lies in the idea of femininity? (being woman- a societal concept) and feminism (impedance to oppression and raising voice against it), the handling of women s issues and the inner struggle of women who are torn between tradition and modernity in the selected novels. newlineThis research project aims to examine the visions of Dalip Kaur Tiwana (in her Punjabi novels translated into English) and Shashi Deshpande (in her Indian English Novels) from the perspective of feminist theory. The thinkers like Roland Barthes and Edward Said consider each cultural representation to be steered by some doctrine and this representation-ideology kinship can t be repudiated and Indian Writing- in every language- represent patriarchal ideology- either internalized by the women or is violently forced upon them. Therefore, the two writers of different languages have been chosen for this research project to map their feminist visions in the selected novels. newline |
