It is not customary, however, to write preface in a Ph.D. thesis but I find it significant to clarify the intentions and introduce the study titled Integrating AI Techniques in the Requirements Phase of SDLC . The present study was primarily intended to identify and resolve conflicts through AI techniques in the early stages of software development lifecycle, namely the requirements phase itself. newlineRequirements Engineering (RE) plays vital role in ensuring the overall success of the Software Engineering process. However, many of the substantial problems that the software industry faces today are still the same as the ones discovered during the software engineering crisis long ago. Poor practices have been blamed as one of the major reasons contributing to the vicious circle. Numerous process models, good practices, and techniques have been developed, which aim at providing necessary support for RE processes. However, these techniques are still suffering from various issues including maximum human intervention, which is the root case for all other issues in RE. It was felt that integration of AI techniques in RE can automate most of the activities of RE and minimize human role. Researchers have made considerable efforts in this direction but contrary to the same, there exists a huge gap between RE issues and availability of AI techniques to resolve the same. One of the major issues, which is common in all stages of RE is inconsistent and conflicted requirements. There is significantly blank space in this area to address the conflict related issues through AI techniques. newlineTaking into account the need and significance of automated techniques to identify and resolve conflict and inconsistency in requirements for building efficient software, an integrated and prescriptive framework, FAIRE (Framework for AI Techniques in Requirements Engineering) has been developed, which may be used to develop the rules to identify conflicts. Further, a methodology has been formulated wherein through genetic algorithm, these identified
