Abstract: Modelling and estimating the channel inside an aircraft is another aspect of introducing newlinewireless network. Researchers have carried out measurements inside aircraft to model the newlinechannel. The measurements have provided the channel parameters including path loss newlineexponent, delay spread, maximum and mean excess delays for different classes of aircraft. The newlinechannel model for the display system has been identified during the research based on available newlineaircraft channel models, including the recommended model by ITU. The estimation of channel newlinehas been carried out using pilot carriers and the most suitable estimation method for the channel newlinebetween display system LRUs has been proposed. newlineImplementing an Avionics Wireless Network (AWN) may have serious security risks. newlineThe network should provide enough security to ensure that an unwanted attacker will not be newlineable to interfere with the normal functioning of aircraft systems. The research has looked at newlinetwo popular algorithms of symmetric and asymmetric encryption for use in AWN namely newlineAdvanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Rivest, Shamir, Adleman (RSA). Both the newlinealgorithms have been modified, based on synchronised aircraft system clock. In AES, the key newlinehas to be shared between the communicating nodes and in RSA the public key is available to newline newlineeverybody. The sharing increases the chances of an adversary accessing the keys and newlinesubsequently able to monitor or modify the data flow between the aircraft units. The proposed newlinemodifications eliminate the need of sharing the key between the LRUs and thus reducing the newlinechance of an external element entering the AWN. The robustness of the modified AES and newlineRSA algorithm has been verified using avalanche attack and a simulated replay attack. The newlinesimulated results have shown the robustness of the proposed model against the security newlinerisks. newlineData available, on the existing MIL-STD-1553B bus, in a display system network was newlinecollected to analyse the data rate and the amount of data. The thesis has proposed a wireless newlinearchitecture for the display system. Based on the concept, a hardware implementation, as part newlineof the research, was carried out for the proposed wireless architecture of display system. The newlineproof of concept was implemented using basic sensors and hardware, for the units in the display newlinesystem network. The most important requirement of the display system is overlaying of sensor newlinedata, based on the crew selection, over incoming videos, prior to displaying. The videos may newlinebe from cabin cameras external cameras, radar, IR sensors etc. The video overlay is undertaken newlinein the Display Control Module. As part of the research, the Display Control Module was also newlinedeveloped and tested to verify the critical aspect of video overlay in display system. newline
