Abstract: Rapid advancements in the wireless communication field have led to the need of newlinecompact antenna design with multiband and ultra-wideband performance. There is an newlineincreasing demand of design of compact, low cost antennas with multi functionalities. newlineNowadays a single mobile phone supports various services like 3G, 4G, Bluetooth, newlineWi-Fi etc. Therefore, extensive research is going on to design and develop antennas newlinethat can support various wireless applications. It is found that planar antenna s unique newlinecharacteristics have made them best suitable for supporting wireless communications newlinein portable devices. They exhibit features such as low profile, small size, compact newlinedesign, easy fabrication, installation and low cost etc. newline newlineIn this research work, a literature review is done in the area of planar antenna design newlineprinciple and working. Planar multiband and ultra-wideband antennas have been newlinedesigned, analyzed and fabricated. The designed microstrip patch and Planar Inverted- newlineF antennas are compact in size, resonates at multiple bands and have stable newlineomnidirectional radiation characteristics. A frequency reconfigurable antenna is also newlinedesigned and analyzed. Coplanar waveguide feed antennas are proposed which give newlineultra-wideband performance. These antennas resonate at frequencies corresponding to newlinevarious wireless applications such as Bluetooth, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, WLAN, etc. Further, newlinedesigned antennas are fabricated and a good agreement between simulated and newlinemeasured results has been found. newline newline
