Abstract: | The present work deals with photon interactions in elements and their respective compounds of dosimetric and industrial importance. With the increasing use of radiations in many fields such as medicine, agriculture and industry, several in-depth investigations were carried out in order to understand various X-ray or gamma ray interactions. The photon mass attenuation coefficient is a fundamental governing quantity essential in evaluating the nature of penetration of X-ray and gamma ray in physical matter. The mass attenuation coefficient is direct measure of the probability of the interaction involving incident photons and the matter. The data of the mass attenuation coefficients of X-ray and gamma ray in numerous materials are of significant interest for industrial, biological, agricultural, and medical applications. newlineThe interaction study in increasing applications of low energy photons is important in basic views of both kinds of research that is atomic physics and in applied physics. The extent of absorption depends on the photon energy. The measurements of absorption values have been reported on the various types of materials such as elements, compounds, alloys, heavy metal oxide borate glasses, soils, and building materials, etc. newline X-ray attenuation measurements near the absorption edge using radioactive source are very limited and in many cases, it was the extrapolation method which was used to measure attenuation value exactly near the edge-jump. To overcome this extrapolation method one needs to go for a continuous energy source (SR) is one such source that can be tuned near the edge-jump, so that one can go for accurate measurements near the edge-jump. So, it is worthwhile to undertake attenuation measurements to cover some of the existing gaps around the absorption edge and this coefficient is a basic parameter for many studies. In order to study the X-ray interaction processes near and around the absorption edges, one requires several radiation energies around the edge energy. There are some technique |
