dc.description.abstract | According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) 2003: The concept of a public health newlinesystem a complex network of individuals and organizations that, when working newlinetogether, can represent what we as a society do collectively to assure the conditions newlinein which people can be healthy.[1] newline This thesis introduces a user-centered approach to analyze and design a public newlinehealthcare system using ICT . The thesis is a contribution of the work I have newlineconducted within recent years in the field of healthcare and information and newlinecommunication (ICT) technology research. Due to wide adaptation and current newlinechanges in the use and impact of healthcare technologies, there seems to be a newlinegrowing need for a user-centered design approach. This need has been strongly newlinesupported by my experiences in researching information technology usage in the newlinehospital environment, applying user-centered methodologies in research, observing newlineand facilitating public health information system with ICT related web discussions, newlineand participating in a number of project planning groups like KaTRI project). newlineDiscussions with people working in different fields of ICT and healthcare have newlineprovided me with valuable insights into the challenges of healthcare technology newlinedevelopment.
