dc.description.abstract | During the period of 2007-17, SAD-BJP government was a coalition government in Punjab. In democratic set up, where no single political party secures majority of seats, some parties come together to form their government which is known as coalition government. Coalition politics in Indian states is the logical and inherent outcome of the political fragmentation and social diversities in our country. It is an expression of the divergent views held by the people as well as political parties and the desire of different groups to come into power. As the coalition politics is an ongoing process at present, a practical and lively manifestation of power politics is much needed. newlineAt the time of election, before approaching the electorate, every political party issues their election manifesto. A manifesto contains the aims and objective of the party. The manifesto is an opportunity for a political party to present its agenda for the future aspirations of the people. The manifesto is an opportunity for a political a party to articulate its policies and programmes with a vision to clarify its purpose and a sense of determination. The manifesto is a charter and a contract with the people. They give a new aspiration and expectation to the people for their better lives and to improve their standard of living.
