Abstract: A feasible and industrially successful method developed over the newlinelast quarter century is the use of phase transfer agents employed in catalytic newlineamounts which transfer reactive anion from the aqueous or solid phase into newlinethe organic phase where reaction occurs Phase transfer catalyst PTC has newlineproved to be a very important means of transcending phase barriers in newlineheterogeneous systems PTC is one of the most important and useful methods newlinein synthetic organic reactions because of its simple reaction procedure mild newlineconditions inexpensive and environmentally friendly reagents and the ease in newlinescaling up the reactions The use of phase transfer catalyst is growing newlinescaling up the reactions The use of phase transfer catalyst is growing newlinesignificantly and it is reported that there are several commercial processes newlinewhich use approximately one million pounds of PTC per year The production newlineof polymers by this new method needs an understanding of its kinetics and newlinemechanism of polymerization newlineIn the present investigation two new phase transfer catalysts have newlinebeen synthesized characterized and were used for the study of kinetics and newlinemechanism of free radical polymerization of alkyl methacrylates Using both newlinecatalysts the polymerization reactions of the alkyl methacrylate monomers newlinesuch as Methyl methacrylate MMA Ethyl methacrylate EMA butyl newlinemethacrylate BMA and Glycidyl methacrylate GMA ere carried out newlineunder inert and unstirred conditions at 60 C in cyclohexane water biphase newlinemedia using potassium peroxodisulfate as water soluble initiator newline newline
