Abstract: | Aims: The Morus alba L.is well known plant for its medicinal values. The present newlinestudy deals with the Isolation, Characterization and Pharmacological evaluation of newlinenew molecule from stem bark Morus alba L. newlineMethods: HPTLC fingerprinting of the methanolic extracts of M. alba L. (stem bark) newlinewas performed. The solvent systems for M. alba extract were chloroform: ethyl newlineacetate: acetone (4:1:2), chloroform: ethyl acetate: formic acid (6:3:0.02) and newlinechloroform: methanol: acetic acid (10:2:0.02). The newly isolated compound was newlinefurther screened for reducing power, and nitric oxide scavenging activity (in vitro newlineantioxidant models). The Compound 1 was also screened for its influence on tissue newlineGSH levels and lipid peroxidation (in vivo antioxidant models). The compound 1 was newlineeven screened for hepatoprotective (against CCl4 and paracetamol induced newlinehepatotoxicity), nephroprotective (against paracetamol induced nephrotoxicity) and newlinegastro protective (against pylorus ligation and ethanol induced ulcer) activities. The newlinevarious relevant biochemical markers like SGOT, SGPT, ALP, total billirubin, direct newlinebillirubin, BUN, serum creatinine, gastric volume, gastric pH, free acidity and total newlineacidity were estimated to assess the organ protective potential of the compound. It newlinewas further confirmed by histopathological observations. newlineResults: The phytochemical investigation of stem bark of M. alba L. resulted in newlineisolation of Sterblusteryl palmitate (Stigmast-5-en-3and#946;-ol-26-oic acid-3and#946;hexadecanoate), Moruslanosteryl acetate (Lup-5, 24-dien-3and#946;-yl acetate), and#945;-Amyrin newlineacetate (Urs-12-en-3and#946;-yl acetate), Moruslupenoic acid A (Lup-20(29)-en-3and#946;-ol-27- newlineoic acid), Betulinic acid (Lup-20(29)-en-18-and#946;H-3and#946;-ol). Out of these Sterblusteryl newlinepalmitate is new phytoconstituent isolated for the first time. newlineTest compound demonstrated concentration dependant in vitro and in vivo antioxidant newlineactivities in all the models of the study. The treatment with test extract has reversed newlineall the biochemical markers of hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and ulcer |
