Abstract: | Measuring the academic performance of a student in tertiary education has never been an easy task as it cannot be easily quantified in units. Nursing undergraduates require skill and competence in multiple disciplines and need to acquire knowledge on a wide-range of subjects over a limited time period. They encounter complex situations and conflicts which constitute factors that affect their academic performance. newlineObjective The aim of the study is to assess the factors affecting the performance of undergraduate nursing students studying in selected nursing colleges of Maharashtra. newlineStatement of problem: A study to assess the factors affecting the performance of undergraduate nursing students studying in selected nursing colleges of Maharashtra. newlineMethodology A descriptive research design was adopted. Self Structured Questionnaire was prepared to collect data from 20 nursing colleges. Stratified random sampling technique was adopted. The Statistical analysis was done using descriptive and inferential analysis (Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis test) by SPSS 20.0 software. newlineResults The findings revealed that the majority 354 (70.8 %) nursing students were female and 146 (29. 2 %) were male, 393 ( 78.6 %) belonged to age group of 19 -20 years, 443 (88.6 %) students medium of instruction in 12th standard was English , 160 (32 %) were living with parents, Majority 234 ( 46.8 %) students belonged to upper middle class, 486 (97.2 % ) from Maharashtra state, 408 (81.6 %) were Hindus, 220 (44 %) had only one sibling. Majority student s 10th and 12th standard percentage was 61 75 % respectively and overall percentage in the first year B. Sc. Nursing was 61-70 %. |
