Abstract: Topical gel preparations are intended for superficial skin application or some mucosal surfaces for local action of medicament or for their soothing or protective action. The success of topical delivery depends on the ability of the drug to permeate the skin in sufficient quantities to achieve its desired therapeutic effects. The present investigation aims at development and evaluation of herbal anti-inflammatory and analgesic gel using of aqueous extract of Buchanania lanzan with selected excipients and drug Etoricoxib. Etoricoxib herbal gel (EHG) was formulated by cold mechanical method. Total three formulations were formulated with various ratios of constituents in composition of herbal gel. Formulated etoricoxib herbal gel was evaluated by in terms of various physicochemical parameters, pH, Viscosity, extrudabilty and spreadability. Various pharmacological models for analgesic and anti-inflammatory such as tail immersion test, acetic acid induced writhing method, carrageenan induced model were selected which assessed the potency of formulated herbal gel respectively. All the findings concluded that topical preparation containing at least 2% of etoricoxib herbal gel possesses both anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect which can be useful for the treatment of local inflammation and pain. newline
