Abstract: newline Keeping in view the ancient as well as the recent importance of this holy river, these two sites were chosen for the research work. There are several reasons for our motivation for such type of study. Due to such importance of this river in Vedic and ancient texts that the ancient civilization progressed along the Sindh and Ganga river as its water was used for agriculture and drinking purposes, and the sins are washed away by a single dip in Ganga Jal (water), this river has gained the status of the National River of India by the Central Government. It is also believed that the Ganga water have some unique non-putrefying property that it does not impart foul smell even after the storage of several years. These properties inspired us to work in detail on the non-putrefying and antibacterial properties under the Ph.D programme of the Vishwavidyalaya.
