Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineThe present study was undertaken to evaluate the somatic DNA damages associated with modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors among Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) patients and to identify new biomarkers for the early detection of CAD. The study subjects comprised of 200 clinically proven CAD patients and One hundred age and sex matched healthy subjects were selected as controls where all subjects were taken within the age group of 31 to 55 years. The present study frankly proved the clinical utility of emerging risk markers such as ADMA, CerK and Lp-PLA2 for the early prediction of CAD and showed a positive correlation with the mean CBMN frequency. The extent of somatic DNA damages was expressed as mean CBMN frequency and it showed inter-individual variation. The increased mean CBMN frequency among the study subjects with 95% of confidence interval revealed its predictability for CAD. The present study concluded that modifiable risk factors contribute more somatic DNA damages in CAD patients than non-modifiable risk factors. Overall, the study recorded a broader understanding of genetic and molecular events that predisposing to CAD. In short, CAD is multi-faceted disease process with several different well-defined risk factors. Although traditional risk factors remain important, the application of genetic approach has pointed out a substantial role in predicting CAD. newline newline |
