Law regulating agricultural produce marketing in India a study

Abstract

The existing laws guided by the state s Agricultural Production marketing Committee (APMC) Regulation Acts provide for regulation of agricultural markets where the transactions can take place in a fair and transparent manner but the reality is far more complex due to many loopholes in the Agricultural Marketing system thus defeating the purpose of regulation. However, liberalizing the agriculture as free markets without any Govt. Regulations and Control, might leaving marginal farmers at the mercy of the private players with no proper protections and safeguards for the farmers and the right way forward is to plug in those loopholes in the existing APMC regulated markets and not to do abolish them. Moreover, it has been seen that plethora of laws and policies have been enacted but seldom gets implemented in its true spirit where the laws can actually be seen benefitting the farmers and taking them out from the overwhelming distress. newline
