An evaluative study of solar city programme in select cities of India

Abstract

This study is primarily survey based, and exploratory in nature; hence both qualitative and quantitative approaches have been used to probe the assessment of solar city programme in each select city. Both primary and secondary data have been collected for the proposed study. The primary data have been collected from a total sample of around 220 staff, officials, suppliers, other stakeholders and 200 end-users with the help of three structured questionnaires. The major energy consuming categories: residential, commercial, municipal and institutional have been taken for the study. The main emphasis is on four RE devices i.e. Rooftop-Solar Photovoltaic System, Solar Water Heating System, Solar Photovoltaic System and Solar Street Lighting System. Various issues demanded for evaluating different aspects of solar city programme in India. An attempt has been made in this research study to assess the effectiveness of public-private partnership under solar city programme, about the role of implementing and monitoring agencies under solar cities as well as assessment of satisfaction and perception of end-users about the programme In light of findings, challenges observed under implementation of the programme in select cities have been mentioned and key recommendations suggestions are given. newline
