Abstract: Teachers constitute a significant position in the entire educational system. They play a vital role in the educational development and educational reforms in the country. Therefore, for making the educational policies, programs and the system to be successful, school s work culture and subsequently teachers job satisfaction is of cardinal importance. This study is an attempt to make a comparative study of job satisfaction of government schools teachers with that of private schools teachers to ascertain their level of job satisfaction. It covered the impact of the provisions of the RTE Act on teachers satisfaction and attempted to examine the school organizational factors as well as their professional and organizational satisfaction of teachers in relation to their personal differences of age, gender, educational qualification and their nature of jobs. Job satisfaction of the teachers of the selected schools has been assessed through interview schedules, in-depth discussions, and observation by the researcher. To test the statements and hypotheses, the mean percentage of the responses of the sampled teachers had been calculated. In addition to this, Chi-Square and p-value had also been calculated as per the requirement of the present research study. There must be an effective independent regulatory body that can supervise and monitor private schools besides redressing the grievances of the teachers. There is a dire need to improve the service conditions and economic security of teachers for their professional commitment. Better reimbursement of their professional services, attending to teacher s mental and psychological needs by school authorities, trained and effective school leadership, better facilities at the workplace, stress coping and class management training sessions, salary reforms can impact significantly their contentment, self-fulfilment, and finally a sincere commitment to their professional duties. newline
